Moi: Akomplice x Aesthetic – Brazilian News

November 29th, 2012

Akomplice has teamed with the Moi Platform and Aesthetic (both Brazilian organizations from Florianopolis). The project aims to produce awareness about the role higher education plays in developing evolution and quality of life for humans everywhere. The project also aims to create revenue, from which 100% of the profits will donate to The Empada Students Project (part of the Moi Platform), which invests in college scholarships for local students in Guinea-Bissau. The scholarships cover tuition in Bissau, the country’s capital, for students from the village of Empada. We believe that education is the most efficient way of catalyzing changes and creating youth leadership in small communities. Check a news story run on Globo, Brazil’s largest television network about the collaboration. Keep an eye out for the North American release which will take place late February.

Ricky Powell x Akomplice

November 27th, 2012

Photography, Sex, and Fashion. We’re Celebrating “50 Years of the Lazy Hustler” with the fabled NYC photographer Ricky Powell. For those unfamiliar, Ricky is a native New Yorker who has been working the music, art and fashion scene from both sides of the lens for the better part of 30 years, and has shot everyone from Andy Warhol to The Beastie Boys. Ricky for the last year and a half has been wearing our New York Crimes hat and because of that he dubbed himself the Akomplice “poster child” so we found it befitting to collab with him for the release of our latest headwear collection. The Collection is comprised of pom beanies in black and red as well as a trio of snapbacks in hunter green, maroon and navy. Each hat features our logo alongside Ricky’s signature and the number 50 illuminating the inclusion of this collection within Ricky’s 50th anniversary. More than a collection of hats, this is a collaborative effort which will reverberate with New Yorkers. For the collection we made use of the iconic New York Times typeface and added our own street savvy spin. New York Crimes pom beanies, and snapbacks available now on our webstore.

Akomplice 2012 Holiday lookbook by trashhand

November 23rd, 2012

The Akomplice Holiday 2012 lookbook shot by trashhand was unveiled today on Hypebeast.com. We shot the lookbook in ATL at the A3C music festival. We wanted the lookbook to be real so we chose not only the performers to showcase the collection but also the attendees and staff. We let everyone dress the clothes the way they would normally, not a pre-conceived image we created. Some performers found in the lookbook include the likes of: Raekwon, Slum Village, Dungeon Family, Devin the Dude, YP, Two 9, Cunninlynguists and Slimm Calhoun. See the entire photo story now on Hypebeast by clicking here.

Patrick Akomplice Meets Lauryn Hill

November 20th, 2012

This last weekend Akomplice caught up with Grammy Award winner Lauryn Hill and got to catch a show at The Fillmore in Denver, Colorado on her latest tour. The illusive Lauryn Hill, one of early hip hops most powerful figures seems to have found the spot light again. After her run with The Fugees she disappeared in 2000 and wasn’t even seen in the public eye and definitely not performing. From 2000 Lauryn made very few appearances performing, canceling many shows with the exception of a few here and there like; Dave Chappelles Block Party and an Mtv Unplugged performance. One of our generations most talented singer song writers and rappers has found her voice again. Lauryn’s performance these days consists of a full live band sitting in with her as well as Ms. Lauryn doing some solo acoustic guitar work. We thank Lauryn for allowing us to meet her and grace us with her presence and her vibrant art form. “Fantasy is what people want, but reality is what people need” -Lauryn Hill
