June 19th, 2010

The party was a huge success, even Eric Balfour came out to show his support. I was hyped because both Mike and I grew up watching Six Feet Under. On top of that, Eric was already on the movement and he told me how he had already painted his roof a reflective color, saving cash and the planet; now that’s what I am talking about! We released the Paint Pack and already sold a good amount of the limited run, so snatch yours quick before they’re gone.  Thanks to Flying Dog Ale for getting the party poppin with the dankest, meanest beer made in the U.S. Also shouts to Green Truck On The Go for all the amazing organic snacks they provided. Checks all the pics after the drop.

BBC World News confirms viability of AK’s Paint Project!

June 17th, 2010

BBC World News released an article today about workers in Peru who are working to restore their local glacier by painting the nearby mountain entirely white.   Sound strange?  The concept behind their strategy is exactly the same concept we’re promoting with our “Paint Project.” Painting the mountain white will keep the mountain’s surface cooler, increasing snow retention, just as painting cities white will decrease city temperatures reducing air-conditioning demands.  Still skeptical?  Read the entire article here, and find out for yourself that this is truly a viable strategy!

Akomplice X Conveyor Fred Segal

June 14th, 2010

This is a proud moment for us here at Akomplice. We would like to announce our massive project with Conveyor Fred Segal. We have been putting our blood, sweat, and tears into this for the last 5 months. Never have we put this much effort into a collaboration. The undertaking of this project breaks the traditional mould of fashion and touches everyone living and breathing on our planet.

I present to you the:

Paint  Project:

Now you’re probably wondering what all this is about. A paint can, a T-shirt, and a brush?  Huh?  Let me start you with the quote that inspired the project.

“Making roads and roofs a paler color could have the equivalent effect of taking every car in the world off the road for 11 years.”-

Mike and I were in the airport last year coming back from Europe when we heard Mr. Chu’s quote on CNN.  This was such a startling fact that our instant reaction was, “Could this really be true?”We put one of our smartest employees on researching the idea of painting a cooler future and, after much research,  we found that this was indeed a feasible way to battle the current crisis we face as humans: Global warming.

We became so inspired we decided to make this a global tour to each Continent, save Antarctica.  On each Continent we will spread knowledge by releasing a collaborative Paint Pack and hosting a party at one of our esteemed retailers.  We felt it was necessary to do The Paint Tour since this is a global issue and a proper solution to it must come from the entire world, not just one country or one continent.

Releasing only the Paint Pack still didn’t feel like enough, so we reached out to the world’s leading scientist in the matter to learn what else we could do.  First, we decided to donate 10% of profits to the leading non-profit organization, White Roof Alliance, but this still didn’t feel like enough.  So we thought, “What could we do that would have a major impact and catch peoples’ attention?”  Then boom it hit us!  Find a Los Angeles roof to paint!  We gained the support of EnviroSafe Paints (America’s premium no-VOC paint) and Miracle Cover (America’s Finest Liquid Sealant) as sponsors of the movement and each agreed to donate paint and sealant for the LA makeover.  We are now in the process of working with the city of Los Angeles to paint a prominent building white in order to help cool the city and reduce the its utility costs, all the while sending our message off with a big bang.

That is our movement!  Please come join us on June 16th from 7-10pm at Conveyor Fred Segal in Santa Monica to celebrate the launch of this movement, and the kick off of our 6 continent tour.  The Paint Pack will be released in a limited quantity exclusively at Conveyor Fred Segal and The Akomplice online store.   Each pack will have a certificate of authenticity that is hand numbered with a supporting fact sheet.  The Paint Pack only costs $49.00, and remember that 10% of this will be donated to the White Roof Alliance.  Support our biggest project to date.  There will be complimentary micro brew beer thanks to Flying Dog Ale, and complimentary shooters from Green Truck On The Go (the only organic food truck that buys local organic ingredients).  DJ Raffiki will be on the wheels of steel holding down the tunes.
