Global Dance Festival [After The Jump]

Global Dance Festival:  The Biggest Electronic Music Event in the Rocky Mountains.  Global Dance at RedRocks had 3 stages: The Triad Dragons Stage (main), The Global NRG Stage (up top), and the Global.Bass.Code.0 Stage (back lower level).  All stages were poppin’ all the time, and while the headlining acts (Deadmau5, Infected Mushroom, Savoy, …) were all on the main stage, both of the other stages were always packed and the music was bangin’ throughout.  We only made it for Friday night, but it was a night to be remembered…

The main stage: check the speaker rack.

The view from Red Rocks with Denver in the distance.  If you haven’t been there before, now you know: there’s no place like it for live music.  And for a electronic dance music festival, the place was straight up off the hook!

The girls we were kickin’ it with: Steph and Megan holding it down in some AK Liberty dresses.  Too hot to handle, so they’ve got the squirt guns to cool you down.

Anya Grind, Steph, Carlton Cat, our friend Hayden, and Megan.  Hayden straight held it down for us too.  He picked us up on Friday afternoon, and then blasted us down I-70 topping 110mph: turning what would have been a 3-hour trip into a 2-hour pleasure drive. Don’t mind his grin, he’s only clownin’.  The dude’s made suave, good with the ladies, and can hold down the dance floor like MC Hammer.

The light shows on the main stage were off the hook.  Especially after dark.  Here things are just getting going.

The top stage.  This was Heavyweight Dub Champion’s set, and he was slaying it.  Plus the booty dancers add a nice touch… err view.

Ana Sia herself.  Ana straight slays it as a producer, the true definition of an electronic music ‘artist’.  Her set was definitely my favorite and as a person she has a wonderful vibe.  I’ve caught her sets a few times on the west coast, but backstage at Red Rocks was something else.  Her remix of Big Boi’s new album (which came out only 10 days before the show) was bangin’!

The crowd was wild. And weird.  Everyone from from the Loked-out Hoodies to the lace-thong teeny-boppers.  These kids were definitely getting down.

Late night.  We crushed it with all sorts of good people backstage at the Global NRG stage: Kraddy, Dj S.P.E.C.T.R.E, Rusko, even the Pendulum DJ duo.  This shot’s from Rusko’s set. Downstairs on the Code-0 Stage our good friend Coult45 was crushing it too, deep bass style.  Coult45 was repping Akomplice to the fullest, and we’re bummed that our shots of him didn’t turn out.  We’ll be sure to show him some love once we’ve sourced a few good photos of him from Friday night.  Word up Coult45!

After Global Dance ended we bounced into Denver to chill at a girl’s crib for a minute and then checked out the GD Afterparty at Club 2AM.  The place wasn’t too poppin’ so we jetted and headed to a late night diner to get some food.  I was mad tired and didn’t even make it into the joint before I fell asleep in the back of the car.  Hayden rallied us back with Matt to keep him company.   Next thing I know, I wake up to find that we’re on the other side of Independence Pass at a familiar little swimming hole we call, The Punch Bowl.   No better way to welcome the day, than an early morning cliff jump into icy snowmelt.  This is how we do it in Colorado.
