For our most recent collection, the Magic Plant series, we wanted to feature a group of people that were representative of the line, and aligned with our ethos of progressing the consciousness. We hit up three members of the up-and-coming BEASTCOAST NY rap movement (Kirk Knight of Pro Era, Erick Arc Elliot of Flatbush Zombies, and Elbee Thrie of Phony PPL). Our girl Jessica Lehrman lined up the shoot and brought in art director/stylist Kate Stein to help coordinate outfits for the Beast Coast artists. We grew up with Jessica and have seen her career progress over the years. She is becoming a hard hitting photographer who’s shot for Rolling Stone, Billboard, Spin, and many other publications.

This is the second lookbook that Jessica has shot for us.  The photo shoot was at Jessica’s apartment in Brooklyn, “we shot at my apartment and the whole scene was awesome and fun. EVERYONE involved is now obsessed with the clothes,” she said. Jessica paints a good picture of the scene in an e-mail she sent me, “I had my intern Melissa on the set from Canada, Brittany Whetnall from Ohio overseeing hair, Sylist Kate Stein some dude from another country hanging out, can’t remember his name, then the Rolling Stone writer Matthew Trammel came through with this dude named Pat, who I later found out was Plain Pat. Also, my roomies were here finishing up the latest issue of Relapse Magazine in the next room while we blasted hip hop and heard unreleased tracks from some of the kids.”

The Magic Plant lookbook does more than just depict clothing. This lookbook is about portraying a collective consciousness movement about progressing forward. We wanted to produce something new, so instead of resting on our laurels, we sought to realign the focus of the lookbook to be not solely on the subject, garment, or photo, but instead to be on all three. Peruse the pictures and let your mind meander.
