We are proud to introduce the newest member of the Akomplice team, Colorado based hip hop artist Catch Lungs. Catch and AK go way back; Patrick Liberty and Mike have known the man for many years and have continued to have a close relationship. Formerly a member of the Denver based hip hop crew the Fresh Breath Committee, CL has now broken out on his own and has already accomplished big things in the hip hop game. He has worked with many esteemed artists including Danny Brown, Blu, Elzhi of Slum Village and Guilty Simpson. You can get his album, Awake In A Dream, for free here. Below is the first in a series of interviews we will be conducting to introduce the various people who compose the AK team and make this brand happen.
1. You just got brought on to the Akomplice team full time, how does that feel?
It’s a great feeling to be part of such a dope movement. I’ve always loved and supported Akomplice since I linked up with Mike and Pat back in my high school days. The core team is a group of really great guys, and I’m humbled to be a part of such a powerful force.
2. So John, you have know Akomplice for a long time. How did that come about?
When I was in high school, I met Pat and Mike (The founders of Akomplice) – and we hit it off. From our love of music to our passion for being fresh, we had a good bond that grew into a great friendship. Pat and Mike are a little older than me, and have always been like big brothers to me.
3. Tell us the difference between Catch Lungs and John Morse?
John Morse is the name my mother and father gave me, while Catch Lungs is the stage name I gave myself. I fell in love with hip hop / rap at age 5 when I was exposed to albums like Nas “Illmatic” and Dr. Dre “The Chronic” … I memorized songs from both albums when I was little and when I grew up I felt like it was my turn to make the songs for other people to memorize.
4. I want you to give the Akomplice fans the link to your favorite song you have done and insight why this is the song you selected to show them?
The song is entitled “Awake In A Dream” ft. Blu (Prod. by Mass Prod)- It’s the title track off of my debut album that dropped in 2011. This is my favorite track because my verse speaks about my life in a real way, and lets the listener get a glimpse into what my life is like. Blu is one of my favorite emcees and it was really a pleasure getting to work with him on this one.
5. What has been your most interesting Akomplice experience over the years?
My most interesting experience with Akomplice took place in the mountains of Aspen after a fashion show/ concert. Anybody who was there will remember the crazy times we had with a rapper named Copywrite. It was one of the wildest experiences I’ve had in life, period. Haha..
6. Favorite AK piece of all time and why?
My favorite piece of all time from the line is the recently dropped MWG button up. I love the style and fit. It’s literally dope haha.. At a first glimpse, one doesn’t realize what he or she is looking at. But under further investigation, you find that each of the plants on the shirt is actually a plant that is turned into a drug. Gotta love it! It’s like… Drug Camo hahah.
