X-Large x Akomplice MWG Look Book

January 15th, 2013
We are proud to release a very special project to the world. We usher in our latest collaborative efforts with X-Large in the form of a capsule collection thematically based on the 1975 Edward Abbey cult classic novel, The Monkey Wrench Gang. For those unfamiliar, the novel is based on four individuals sojourn to protest and disrupt environmentally endangering activity in the American Southwest. The capsule collection was approached with the sentiment of environmental awareness and defiance in mind.
For this lookbook, the juxtaposition of day and night helped us communicate the thematic tenet of respect and love for nature which pervades throughout the collection. Nature sustains mankind, thus making it necessary to protect it by any means necessary which we illustrated through braving the cold of night to complete the collection. The MWG book served as both the inspiration and motivation for the shoot. To capture the aura of the novel, we enlisted the creative services of Two FreshDemrick and a smattering of X-Large and Akomplice crew members to display the collection’s light side at the botanical gardens during the daylight hours. For the grimey side of the collection, we tapped Joey Fatts, A$AP Yams newest artist, to don the co-branded ski-mask. The transition between day and night throughout the lookbook achieves the effect of displaying the central theme of the Monkey Wrench Gang which is environmental conservation by any means necessary.
